We had beautiful weather for the start of our three day weekend. The roar of the cannon from Colonial Fort Michilimackinac and the sound of muskets was heard as the reenactment of the Indians taking back the fort from the British in the 1760’s was played out for our visitors. It is a historical reenactment done by dedicated people that want you to remember the history of this area. I will admit though, it takes a little getting used to. Why? Because all of the reenactors are running around town in their historical costumes talking on cell phones. It just takes some getting used to. This is a pageant that our guests that have seen it, truly enjoy and agree that it is a must see event.
We had two couples stay with us this weekend that were celebrating their fortieth wedding anniversary. Both husbands had know each other since childhood and were each others best man. They decided to go to mass on the island at St Annes‘ Church. Afterwards they were socializing and looking at pictures of the church when the priest introduced himself and asked if they they were staying on the island. They told him that they were celebrating their fortieth anniversary. He immediately suggested that they go back in church for a blessing. The blessing ended up with them taking their wedding vows over. When they returned to the Riviera, they were still glowing form the wonderful day on the island .
We also had a wonderful parade on Saturday and Memorial Day service this morning.
